The Blue Mountain And Its Nearby Attractions

by Dave Text

Blue Mountain located in New South Wales, Australia. This mountain is famous for its magnificent view, making it one of the famous attractions in the region.

The term vacation or holidays means giving yourself a break from something you usually do by going someplace or attending a certain festival or celebration. Spending the holidays with your whole family and friends are the most common ritual.

In the United Kingdom the term "vacation" is referred exclusively to the very long summer break given by the so called “law courts”. This is a tradition introduced by William the conqueror from Normandy, where in, the intention at that time was as a form of assistance to their great grape harvest. Thus, the French word for the word “vacation” would be "Les Vacances”.

The word vacation is not just a term used in English-speaking countries like North America, which they would refer as a lengthy time away from school or work but rather a pleasure trip one can take to have fun, enjoy and get all the stress out. Although it is common to plan vacations ahead, possibly about 6 months up to a year in advance, others who are not that privileged would go with a quick get away for the weekend or a whole day with the kids somewhere.

Thus, the Blue Mountains were discovered in the year 1788. Although it has been recognized by Indigenous Australians for hundreds of years, the Blue Mountains were considered to be impenetrable by the early settlers of Sydney. This was an impassable area where in it is somewhat next to impossible to cross. This is until criminals and other explorers were able to formulate ways on how they can get across.

The most well known expedition for the Blue Mountains was during the year 1813, by three famous personalities. This would be Lawson, Badland, and Wentworth. Like the earlier explorers who attempted to get across the Blue Mountains, they followed the flow of the river valleys, only to find out the pathway was terminated by vertical cliffs that are about a hundred meters high. With this hindrance, the three explorers just followed the ridges in order to reach the plateau.

The”first crossing” of Lawson, Badland and Wentworth was the precious ordinary misconception brought about by a variety of monuments they perceived to be authentic. Thus, the geographical prize they received for their efforts was the three hills along Kanimbla Valley located in the northwest portion of Mount York which was named after them. This journey to the Blue Mountains was customarily regarded as a serious step that opened the western part of New South Wales to the European resolution.

With regards to the accommodation sector, during the 1970s it mainly revolved on motels. Since the competition was tough in this area, most of the owners barely talk to one another and the environment at that time was warlike and hostile. It would even go to the extent that when a certain motel is full, they will just inform visitors that the whole are is packed so they can just fro accommodations farther away from the area. Thus, a few years later, they were able to set up the Blue Mountains Motel Association.

Since then, this association became the Hotel Industry’s main voice. From them the Tourist Association was able to set up policies with regards to the objectives and aims for their guest.

These were:

• To instill a hospitable and friendly industry within the Blue Mountains
• To analyze as well as act upon the problems that affect the so-called “accommodation industry”
• To liaise with the highly regarded Hotel and Motel Association
• To cooperate and liaise with the Tourism staff of the Blue Mountains.

Thus, last July 21st of the year 1991, the name of the Blue Mountains was requested to be changed to “The Blue Mountains Accommodation Association Inc.”.

There are a lot of reasons why people go to the Blue Mountains to spend a fun filled and exciting vacation. Some of the attractions you will find there are as follows:

• The Scenic Skyway - It is a glass bottom aerial cable car which showcases a 545-meter area ride.

• The Giant Staircase – It is a giant staircase that runs down the cliff.

• The Toy Museum at Leura – In this distinct museum, various kinds of toys collection is being featured. This is the most loved museum in the region, primarily because of the kids.

10 Things Worth Doing While Visiting Copenhagen

by Tatyana Kogut

There are things you simply have to do when coming to the city. This will help you feel its spirit and atmosphere. Here are they.

1. Observe the city from the observatory on its Rundetaarn – The Round Tower. Thousands of flues, gulls, basketball playgrounds and even a small part of Sweden (if you stand on your tiptoes) are seen from the roof.

2. Step over the most transparent and pleasant EU border straight in the city centre and get into the Christiania hippie community, or the Freetown. This is where you will find yourself at the eternal festival of disobedience, surrounded with the atmosphere of the 60’s. Sex, drugs and rock’n’roll. Grandchildren of flowers sell aroma sticks, t-shirts and beads bracelets. A couple of years ago marijuana was also sold freely here, but the police has cut this business short. Still, drugs are sold under cover. Note that you are not allowed to take pictures of the Christiania – many signs will remind you of this. That is why the best way to see the community is to visit it. There is a sign saying “NOW U ENTER EU” at the exit.

3. Go to the youngest and most developed metro in the world (opened here in 2002), take the front seat and fulfill your childhood dream: imagine yourself a train engineer. All the trains are operated by computers, so there is only a windshield that separates you from the tunnel. Though taking your seat might be uneasy: there are lots of children eager to “operate” the vehicle. At the moment the map of Copenhagen metro is one of the most ergonomic in the world – there is only one line divided into 2 at the Christianshavn station.

4. Take a train and go to Elsinore, survey the Dutch province of Kronborg and the real Hamlet’s castle. You will get pleasure from surveying gingerbread houses with geranium growing on their window-sills, strange postindustrial castle approach and even Dutch graffiti. Descend to the castle’s cold cells illuminated by oil lamps only, listen to your own steps echoing, get easily lost (because there are no signs here) and found. Flip a coin into the international heap of money deep inside the courtyard well, join an excursion and listen to what a guide can say about Shakespeare.

5. Hang 63 meters above the ground, enjoy the landscape and then go down at an enormous speed. This is what the “Gold Tower”, one of the attractions at the Tivoli amusement park is.

6. Sit on a bench in front of the domed Marble Church and read a book or simply enjoy the atmosphere. On workdays the place is empty. It looks simple and stately. When one mentions true calmness, I think of loneliness of the Marble Church.

7. Drop into local cemetery which looks more like a city park. Almost all the people Denmark is proud of are buried here: Niels Bohr, Soren Kierkegaard and of course Hans Christian Andersen. Walk along the paths, stand by Andersen’s grave covered with children’s paintings and visit the flea market along its walls.

8. Cross the bridge that connects Denmark and Sweden and visit Malmo, the neighboring Swiss city. Fellow travelers will tell you that some ten years ago one could hardly imagine a trip to Malmo in a car. People used ferryboats to get here. The bridge is large and two-storied: there are cars and buses driving along the higher level and trains along the lower one.

9. Wrap yourself into plaid and enjoy coffee in one of the Nuhavn cafes. Nuhavn is a harbour, with paved roadway, channel and mansions. Observe masts, “rain” from the ship ropes, tiled roofs and red Dutch matchboxes swimming by. Then go for a walk to Kongens Nytorv, the city’s largest square with the old opera house, copper monuments and a huge shopping mall called Magasin.

10. Walk along the lakes that surround the city. The lakes bear royal names and are worth seeing. But before you go there you should step onto the bridge and decide what shore you like most – the left or the right one. There are twice as much seagulls and swans as people here.
